Description

This breakfast event is relevant to businesses, policy makers, councils, academics, researchers and individuals who are keen to progress the plastics campaign after the ‘David Attenborough effect’.

Businesses are facing an increasing consumer demand to demonstrate corporate responsibility towards waste, single-use plastics and design for a circular economy. This involves the manufacture of products, use of materials in business processes and effective waste management.

By 2050, the plastic industry is predicted to account for 15% of global greenhouse gas emissions and effective end of life solutions are still being researched (Ref: IPCC climate change report). Plastic still remains a vital material for modern individual and business needs, however it’s production, use and re-use need careful consideration if we are to meet ambitious global targets, to keep a temperature rise to no more than 1.5°C, IPCC.

As consumer expectations evolve, businesses are seeking to grow in a sustainable manner and demonstrate positive business practice. Delegates will hear from both business and academia representatives to discuss current trends, technologies and research on how this societal challenge can become a business opportunity.

During this event you will also have the opportunity to find out about business support available through the Centre for Global Eco-Innovation, Low Carbon Innovation Forum (part of Boost Business Lancashire) funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). This programme is designed to help ERDF eligible Lancashire SMEs address the challenges of the low carbon economy, and explore how businesses can innovate for a better environment.
